Know Who You are Hiring - Business Background Reports
Instant Back Ground Report

There used to be a great grocery store in my town. Fair prices, nice people, clean and well kept aisles; it was my favorite place to shop. I visited the store weekly for years until they got some new managers. They were really nice guys, and they hired some new employees. The goal was to give the grocery store a kick-start so that they could compete with larger grocery stores in the area. Fine with me, I thought. Well, they did some great things to the store, and hired some really great people. They got a lot more business because they made sure they carried the brands that people really wanted.

This was a great grocery store for high school kids to work, as they didn't mind scheduling around school hours. As a result, they had a lot of teenagers working for them. They were all very polite and took their jobs very seriously. Not too long after those new managers came, I heard something pretty bad. One of the new employees who was hired to schedule breaks and such was being accused of sexual harassment by a local doctor. The store was being sued. Turns out the doctor's daughter was an employee of the grocery store and was harassed by that new employee. The terrible thing was that upon hearing the rumors, no one wanted to shop there anymore.

Some people did, but the customer count each day didn't add up to being near their count before the accusation. Not only does a doctor have a lot of pull in the community, but it turns out that the employee had been charged for sexual harassment in two other cases from different places. My first thought was, why didn't the store perform a background check on their employee? That would be the smart thing to do, right? Well, the truth is that many stores and other companies don't perform background checks unless they are suspicious of someone taking money from their store or company. That's a shame, because the store went out of business not too long after that.

It seems that no matter how nice the other employees were, and how clean the store was, or even how low the prices were, no one wanted to shop there. Parents pulled their children out of their jobs and sent letters to the company telling them how disappointed they were in the managers who allowed this to happen right under their noses. Do your homework and make sure your employees are clean.
